I am an Alamo stan. I go to the location in D.C. quite often, so when a friend invited me to this location while I was in town, I didn't hesitate. This theater is gorgeous: the inside feels like a relic of another time, like one of those old school movie houses you see in photos of Hollywood from the 30s and 40s. I especially loved the addition of a pinball area (which we spent a little bit of time in before it was time to sit in the theater for our show). The service at this Alamo was impeccable. The staff was attentive, responsive, and super accommodating. I loved how they offered us water without even flinching which is something the D.C. location rarely does. The food also came out quick, hot, fresh, and CORRECT (another huge win -- as much as I love the D.C. Alamo, this part varies on day and time). My only wish is that the seating was a little more comfortable. I get that a lot of the charm at this location is partly what I'm assuming is the preservation of the auditoriums so they maintain that throwback cinema feel, but I'm not the thinnest person. If I were even fatter than I am now, I could imagine this not being the best option to see a movie. It's also kind of odd that some of the auditoriums require stairs to get to: I have mobility, but if you have limited mobility, I could see this being a possible roadblock. I look forward to coming back here when I'm in SF. Long live the Alamo!!

I love this place! The theaters are amazing and the service is top notch. I cant believe it took me 10 years to finally watch a sad movie and stuff my face all the while- and with bottomless popcorn you can do just that. Why not wash it down with the many beers they have on tap! I wouldn't order a cocktail from them again. But I do still order wings, pizza, or a shake from time to time.

This was such a fun experience! We went on Valentine's Day to watch Poor Things. The staff was really cooperative with my husband coming in after me as he was parking. They check tickets inside the theater not at the lobby. Also note that if the members of your party are not seated within 15 minutes of the show time, they won't be let in. The attire was casual. I bought a blanket and someone else a few seats over removed their shoes. I thought the lights under the food table were a bit bright when the menu was out. The reflection on the menu book made me feel a tad bit conscious in case I was disrupting my fellow movie watchers but they didn't seem to have my problem. Beer was great! Food was brought out quickly. The portions are enough for two people.

Alamo is a smaller, older theater with full bar and food service. Their service is excellent and honestly had great food and cocktails (considering it's a movie theater). I'd definitely recommend this theater if you're in the area. -- Service -- This theater offers full service throughout the entire movie, which I loved. Since this was my first visit to Alamo, the waitress explained the process: Just write down your order, place it in upright in a tray, and press a button which silently alerts the staff to your request. This allows you to order, get refills, or ask for help silently during the movie without having to get up or disrupt others. Super convenient! Tickets are checked at your seat before the movie begins. -- Drinks -- Alamo has a broad select of soft drinks, cocktails, beers, ciders, wines, milkshakes and alcoholic milkshakes. I tried the Whiskey Banana Split Milkshake and it a very sweet, delicious treat. -- Food -- Alamo has the usual movie snacks like candy and bottomless popcorn, but also has heavier food options like sandwiches and pizza. My partner and I ordered the bottomless popcorn and two chicken sandwiches (which came with a pickle spear and fries). The popcorn was good and the sandwiches were very crispy and filling; I would have been happy with the sandwiches at a restaurant, so getting them at a theater was impressive. The popcorn and 2 sandwiches was around $40 before tip. -- Atmosphere & Theaters -- The theaters are fairly small (roughly 20 seats) which are organized in pairs, with each pair of seats sharing a table. Seats are older theater seats (no reclining or couch-style seating like in some big brand theaters). Attire is casual. -- Stars -- Food: 1/1 Star Drinks: 1/1 Star Theaters: 0.5/1 Star Service: 2/2 Stars Total: 4.5/5 Stars

What an experience! First time visiting and I was throughly impressed with this place. The interior is very vintage, they offer a bar and little "gift shop" upon entry. There's an upstairs arcade with a bunch of pinball machines. Vintage cinema so it's worn down a bit; leather seating with some tears but it's to be expected. Your order is taken at your table; prior to the movie you can talk to the waiters to order but once it starts, you write everything down on a piece of paper and press a button that notifies them at the back to approach your table, silently and take your order. Within a few minutes, boom, your order is there! Pretzel - 100/10! Amazing. Baked to perfection and paired with the queso and mustard, you'll be wanting to order another one! Chicken Strips + Fries - thick and filling, nothing special about them. Very flaky, many dipping sauces offered! Popcorn - meh. Not your movie style, buttered popcorn but their serving size is more than enough for 2+ people! Drinks - I got a hazy and was content with my beer! All in all, you're paying for the experience. Food for 2 ran us close to $120 (WOW), but, you get to dine and watch a movie in an old style theater, it's the experience ... definitely not your go-to movie place but definitely something to try if you're in SF!

Such a great location and service provided during the movies! Instead of a traditional movie experience, you can order from waitstaff who bring food and drinks during the film. The food is always delicious and hot. Great spot!

I'm a fan of this theater and prefer it over larger, modern theaters. The fun part is: while watching a movie, you can order food and drinks right at your seat. It's a long-standing institution and a local favorite. Folks take movie-watching seriously here -- including me. Staff makes sure you're not talking or using your phone. Love it. You have to reserve seats, which is also a plus for me. Movie-watching feels more serious here. The theaters themselves are a bit old -- just like the lobby, hallways, bathrooms, etc -- but it doesn't affect my movie-viewing experience and mostly adds to the charm. I've happily enjoyed all the visuals and sounds of every movie with no complaints. The seats could stand to be a bit comfier, and sometimes there are weird smells -- but a lot of this is due to the theater's age, I think. Staff has been great during my experiences here. One time it felt a bit stuffy, so I told a staff member and they turned the AC on. Major points for that. As server, staff is efficient and professional. It's cool how they dart through aisles to take and bring orders. Food has been surprisingly good. Recently, received a large, tasty Cobb salad with hot, tasty pieces of fried chicken. On the other hand, I have been disappointed with the drinks. The cocktails have been so-so. Beer selection is decent. I'd say I'm overall satisfied with the food and drinks, but wish the drinks were better. It still beats being stuck with popcorn and hot dogs. This theater's no IMAX, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I hope this institution stays in SF for a long while. Tip: It's in the Mission, so plan plenty of time for parking if you're driving!

We saw the 1927 film, The Unknown, the Silent Movie Day showing this past weekend. This theater is much larger inside than it seems, a whole level with pinball machines (as well as a few arcade games near the entrance), merchandise for sale in the lobby, cute little lounge and bar with a giant bear and bull statue to greet you when you enter, lots of Bruce Lee posters throughout the venue, and just lovely architecture to be seen everywhere, especially the ceiling inside the auditoriums. The seating was comfortable and in excellent condition, the staff was helpful and explained how to order food from our seats with the push of a button, and the food and drink menu was extensive. We tried the loaded fries and raspberry bramble, and these items were impressive and made with care. The fries were hot, freshly made, tasty, crisp, with the toppings adding the perfect combination of texture and spice. The drink was flavorful and not too sweet, cold and refreshing too. The movie was awesome, got some good laughs, and just a wonderful experience overall. Street parking a block away wasn't too difficult either on a Saturday afternoon. Fun times!

The Alamo Drafthouse was a welcome change to San Francisco. When it opened in 2015, it was around the same time as the change of ownership of the once full service Kabuki Theatre (now owned by AMC, and no longer full service). Alamo has joint seating with tiny tables, you pick your seat online, and they have a full bar and snack foods. Things I love include it is drama-free (no texting or fighting), good food and drinks, real Texas-queso, smaller screening rooms/which means less people per film, reserved seating, and lots of leg room. The things I don't love include too many stairs, an awkward elevator experience, the kitchen smells (its too close to the elevator and has bad ventilation), the extremely dirty carpets on the 2nd floor, and the bathrooms are narrow (for mobility/ADA reasons). The Showplace ICON in Mountain View (40 minutes south) has a similar service as Alamo Drafthouse, however their seats at ICON are more comfortable (reclining, and some are heated).
